S.B.I.R.T
Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment is a comprehensive, integrated public health approach to delivering early intervention and treatment services.
What Is Screening?
A Screening is a short questionnaire to confidentially look at your risk of current or future problems related to substance use, depression, or trauma. This includes information about the severity of alcohol, illicit drugs, prescription drug use, and abuse.
What Is A Brief Intervention?
A Brief Intervention is used to increase the awareness of your substance use. If there is a concern, the Behavioral Health Consultant encourages change in behavior and motivates you to seek treatment.
What Is Referral To Treatment?
Referral to Treatment is for those who continue to show significant symptoms and do not respond to the Brief Intervention. Referral to Treatment can be an internal referral for further services or an external recommendation for community-based mental health or substance abuse assessment. Referral to treatment is necessary if screening scores are moderate or high.
SBIRT is Recommended
The National Commission on Prevention Priorities ranked the top 25 preventive services recommended by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) on Preventable Burden (PB) and Return on Investment (RoI). On this list, alcohol screening and intervention ranked #4, just lower than childhood immunizations and smoking cessation.
The World Health Organization (WHO), USPSTF, and the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma have endorsed routine SBIRT in primary care and Level 1 Trauma Centers.

Medication Assisted Treatment
Studies have shown that more people taking Buprenorphine medication for treating Opioid addiction tend to improve their success than those with non-drug therapies. Managing the physical symptoms of opiate dependency helps people gain control of their lives and concentrate on their counseling and recovery. Buprenorphine works in a way that alleviates physical withdrawal symptoms and cravings while also partially blocking the effects of opiates like prescription painkillers or heroin. Treatment is offered in an outpatient setting at the Community Health MAT clinic. This allows all counseling, therapy, pharmacy, and physical needs to be met at one location. The MAT clinic offers a "Recovery Team" of highly qualified physicians and behavioral health experts who support your journey to a healthy life.
MAT program does accept uninsured patients. The fees are determined using a sliding fee scale based on family size and income according to Federal Poverty Guidelines.
Be prepared to come early if you are a new patient to complete the new patient documents. Your first visit for induction can be quite lengthy. This is so that we can monitor your status to reduce your withdrawal symptoms. Please call for an appointment at (405) 769 -1380.
